Mike Moran - Broker Associate
Mike Moran brings more than 30 years experience in news reporting, managing and sales to Heiden Homes, which is owned and operated by his wife, Toni Heiden. In addition to working as an agent, Moran helps Heiden with management and marketing duties.
A native of western New York State, Moran moved to western Colorado in 1986, accepting a job as a sports anchor at KJCT-TV after working as a news and sports reporter in the Rochester, New York area for six years. Highlights at KJCT included covering the World Cycling Championships in Colorado Springs and the Broncos-Giants Super Bowl in January, 1987. He later worked as a sports reporter/anchor in Colorado Springs, as a news director at KJCT and KREX-TV, and then moved to Panama City, Florida in 1995. He served as a news producer in Panama City, where he proposed to Toni in the wake of Hurricane Opal in October of that year (no, the hurricane had no connection with the proposal).
Mike later accepted a job as news director in Monroe, Louisiana, then returned to Grand Junction in 1997 to help start the news department at KKCO-TV. The station’s newscasts became the most-watched news in western Colorado within 18 months. Mike transitioned into KKCO’s sales department, then worked as a reporter for The Business Times newspaper from 2005 through 2011.
Meanwhile, Mike went to work finishing his B.A. in Mass Communications, which he completed in 2004, and earned a Master’s in Business Administration from Colorado Mesa University in 2007. He also began teaching media courses in 2004, and now teaches Speechmaking part-time at the university. He helped reorganize the college’s Speech and Debate Team, renamed the Forensics Team, in 2008.
Moran enjoys volunteering for several community causes, including Kiwanis Club of Grand Junction, where he was president in 2004-05. He also serves on the CMU Master’s in Business Administration Alumni Committee and volunteers for St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. He’s a graduate of the Grand Junction Area Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership program, a former event coordinator for Oktoberfest in Grand Junction and served on the Botanical Gardens Education Committee.
An avid indoors-man when he lived on the east coast, Mike has grown to love the outdoors. He’s climbed more than 20 “14ers” in Colorado and enjoys bike riding, hiking, rafting, skiing, golf and camping. Mike still enjoys indoor activities such as watching sports and news programs, and the DVR enables him to watch Jeopardy, which provides spirited competition with Toni. And he tries to seize any opportunity to go to a Rockies or Broncos game.
Mike and Toni have two sons and nine grandchildren—all of them in Colorado.
