2021 Home Trends: Office Space

A home office is something that used to be, for most of us, an afterthought. Sure, you need a place for your computer, but as more of us move to tablets or laptops, even that need for dedicated space changed. However, over the past year many more of us have come to value a true home office space. As we move into the summer of 2021, we think you'll see many new construction homes touting "home offices" and many homes for sale that have office spaces added or created too.
In a custom home it's easy for builders to design a space, even a 6x10 space is big enough for a small home office. Taking part of a closet or cutting a bit out of a laundry area or mudroom gives new home builders areas in which to create home offices. These offices are in high demand these days!
In your own home, you can create a home office the same way. Utilize part of your closet, part of a spare room, or even part of your laundry room. If you can fit a table, file cabinet, and bulletin board or marker board into a space, you've got the beginnings of a quiet place to work. If you're planning to sell your home, consider creating a space like this for selling purposes. Help potential home buyers to see how and where an office space could be added.
When you are looking at new homes, think outside the box! It's possible you'll prefer to always eat at the breakfast nook instead of in the formal dining room. If so, use that dining room space as a library/office for you and your spouse (if possible). Another option may be looking at a loft area or third bedroom, if you don't need it for that purpose.
Whatever you're looking for in a home, we're here to help you find it! If you're ready to begin your home search, start here!
