Summer in the high desert can seem rough. There's always talk of a drought and conversations will often turn to the familiar phrase of, "We could sure use rain!" All of that is true. Still, there
Springtime in Grand Junction
Dated: February 20 2021
February in Grand Junction is often a wet month, with much needed snow falling in the mountains and rain or snow falling here in town. However, after February the temps get higher and the sun feels brighter. March means Spring in Grand Junction is on the way!
There is much to love about Grand Junction in the spring. There's spring skiing on the Mesa and flowers blooming in the valley. You can sit outside in the afternoons and feel the warmth of the sun; it's not dark at 5 anymore!
Mostly what we love about Grand Junction in the spring is what we love about Grand Junction year-round: the many outdoor recreation opportunities that exist here. You can bike, hike, snowshoe, ski (downhill or xc), take your ATV out for a tour, or just enjoy wandering on the paved Riverfront trail.
This spring will also bring the return of so many gorgeous flowering plants. When people think of the "desert" they wrongly assume that there are only cacti growing here. While we do have plenty of those, with their own beautiful blooms, we also have quite a variety of hearty flowers and flowering bushes that bring color to the Grand Valley. Our favorites include lilacs, lavender, and the abundant sunflowers that grow everywhere!
Finally, spring in Grand Junction often feels like a reawakening. We've emerged from hibernation, come out of the dark and cold of winter into the bright light, hopeful and energized. This year feels that way times 100, since so many are now being vaccinated from the COVID-19 virus. There is an added sense of anticipation at a return not only to spring, but to normalcy.
