Winter Activities in Grand Junction

Winter in Grand Junction and on the Grand Mesa can be a wonderful time.  In town we might have sunny days and dry bike trails, while on the Mesa there is skiing to be had and snowshoeing to be done.  Let's look at some of the winter activites in Grand Junction, Colorado.

Just because we're a cold desert doesn't mean we can't have a ski slope! Powderhorn Resort, on the Grand Mesa, is the local's choice for downhill skiing. It's close, family-friendly, and has a wide variety of terraine for such a small resort.

The Grand Mesa is also home to two great Cross Country Ski organizations, the Odin Sports Complex near Powderhorn, and the world-class trails managed by the Grand Mesa Nordic Council higher up on the Mesa.

Also on the Mesa are lots of trails and areas for snowshoeing and snow mobiling.  Whichever of these you're into, you'll find lots of forest service roads available and trails for hiking too!

Back down in the valley, if there isn't snow on the ground, then the golf courses are open! Head out for a chilly but sunny 9 or 18 holes almost year round.  Plus, you can ride fat bikes on our bike trails.  If they're snow-covered, go for it! If they're frozen, go for it.  If they're dry, go for it. However, if the trails are muddy and melting, please don't ride them.

Running on our Riverfront Trail or hiking when the trails aren't muddy are other great options for winter activities in Grand Junction. Our climate gives us so many options for ways to get out in the winter that you'll almost never have a day where you can't find some outdoor activity to do.
